Today is my birthday. 38. Eek! I am spending the majority of the day home alone because I took off of work. I am SO looking forward to the peace and quiet. I never get to be alone at home.
I did a little online shopping spree for clothes for myself last Thursday – just some essentials I need to replace after many years, and that is my gift from my mom and my husband. But I’d also gotten some Barnes & Noble and Amazon gift cards for Christmas for books, so I decided to spend them today.
I often end up using my gift cards to buy stuff for the house (Amazon) or to get books for Christopher (Barnes & Noble), so I decided that spending them all at once today (on my birthday!) would be a good way to ensure that I used them for myself.
Now, I am kind of horrible about reading the books that I own (library pressure, ya know?), so I decided to only buy two books that have already been released, and then use the rest of the money for pre-orders. So here’s what I bought.
Already released books I bought for myself
Lost in Austen: Create Your Own Jane Austen Adventure by Emma Campbell Webster
Release Date: August 7, 2007
I’ve had this book on my TBR list for 18 months, and my library doesn’t have it. You know I love Jane Austen fan fiction type books, so I couldn’t resist buying this one for myself.
Release Date: January 2, 2018
I’ve never read Little Women (gasp! I know.), but I do love the 1995 movie (well the first hour at least, Team Laurie all the way!). So when I heard about this book, I knew I had to read it. I’m sure my library has this book, but I thought it might be one I’d want to lend to my sister. (It’s her birthday today too. Twins! Happy Birthday, Emily!)
Books I pre-ordered for myself
The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore by Kim Fu
Release Date: February 13, 2018
I just added this book to my TBR list this month, but it takes place at camp and has girl bonding and drama. I couldn’t resist after reading the description.
Finding Felicity by Stacey Kade
I LOVE the TV show FelicityMichelle at Pink Polka Dot Books. My mother would tape the episodes while I was in college and then mail to tapes to me (and my sister) because the cable provided where we went to college didn’t have the WB. When I heard about this book from last summer, I immediately added it to my TBR list. Maybe my library will get this book, maybe they wont, but now I won’t have to wait. It will show up at my doorstep on the release date. Yay!
Save the Date by Morgan Matson
Release Date: June 5, 2018
I love Morgan Matson, so pre-ordering this book was a no brainer. I don’t even care that it won’t be out until June. Now my birthday will continue for the next 4 months.
Do you buy yourself birthday presents?
