Goodreads Book Tag

Goodreads Book Tag

Last year I wrote a post about why I love Goodreads, and I had been planning to do a post about improvements I’d like to see to Goodreads, but then Goodreads adding the main functionality I wanted: The ability to re-read books. And I learned about the Google Chrome Library Extension that allows me to see if a book is available at my library from the Goodreads page. Now it’s pretty near perfect. So when I saw this tag on Mommablogsalot, I thought I should do this instead of the other post I had planned.

What was the last book you marked as ‘read’?

I Wish You Happy by Kerry Anne King

I finished I Wish You Happy by Kerry Anne King on Monday afternoon. I gave it 2 stars.

What are you ‘currently reading’?

I am currently reading these 6 books:

Currently Reading

Hardcover: Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children #2) by Seanan McGuire

eAudio: Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Audible (with Jim): Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

Hardcover: Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi

eARC: When We Were Worthy by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen

ARC: The Night Mark by Tiffany Reisz

What was the last book you marked as ‘to read’?

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

I added One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus to my TBR list on July 20th.

What book do you plan to read next?

Reading People by Anne Bogel

I was selected as a member of the launch team for Reading People: How Seeing the World through the Lens of Personality Changes Everything by Anne Bogel, so I’ll be reading that eARC as soon as I finish When We Were Worthy. I have been reading Modern Mrs. Darcy for several years and I’ve listened to every episode of What Should I Read Next? I enjoy Anne’s writing, and I love personality typing, so I am super excited for her book and for this opportunity to be part of the team spreading the word about this book before it’s published.

Do you use the star rating system?

Yes, of course. How else would I remember which books I liked and which I didn’t?

Are you doing a reading challenge?

2017 Goodreads Reading Challenge

Yes. I can never resist. I set my goal at 150 books this year, and I should reach that easily.

Do you have a wish list?

No. I don’t really buy books. I keep all of the books I want to read on my Goodreads “to-read” bookshelf, and then I pull from there when I am planning my monthly TBR lists.

What book do you plan to buy next?

Pre-Ordered Books: Reading People, Dog Man 3, Harry Potter 3

I don’t buy books often, but I have pre-ordered the following books on Amazon:

Reading People by Anne Bogel – I pre-0rdered if before I was selected for the launch team, but the pre-order comes with free audio, so I’m pretty excited about that.

Dog Man #3 by Dav Pilkey – I have pre-ordered two copies: one for Christopher and one for my nephew.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azbakan by J.K. Rowling – We’ve been buying the illustrated versions each year for Christopher.

Do you have any favorite quotes?

“To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” Albus Dumbledore

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Who are your favorite authors?

Rainbow Rowell

J.K. Rowling

Liane Moriarty

Marissa Meyer

I could go on and on.

Have you joined any groups?

Goodreads Groups

Apparently, I have. I don’t really pay attention to them though. And I’ve never been to this book group put on by my library.

Do you think Goodreads could do better?

There are still two things I’d like to be able to do on Goodreads.

  1. I wish I could search through my comments. I often make notes about who recommended the book or whether we read it for book club or not. And it would be helpful to be able to search off of that information when I’m trying to find books.
  2. I’d like to be able to delete multiple books at once from my To-Read list. That would make more periodic cleansing go a lot faster.

Please let me know if this functionality exists.

Do you use Goodreads? Have you done this tag yet? If not, consider yourself tagged.

  1. Your last answer reminded me of something I wish about Goodreads – I’m about to go edit my post hahaha. I wish you could search synopses as well! I hate that you can only do titles and stuff. I want to search for “boarding school” or other terms like that.

    1. Yes! That would be so amazing! I also don’t like that the books aren’t categorized like at the library. The genres are based on reader input and sometimes they’re not correct.
