Books My Husband Should Read (Top Ten Tuesday #25)

Books My Husband Should Read

Books Are Like Couple Friends

One of the hardest things about being married is finding couple friends. You each have to like both people, and they both have to like you both. We have a few couples that we love, but there are others where I love the wife, and Jim hates the wife, or vice versa. We’re constantly on the look out for new couple friends.

I think books are kind of the same way. I love to share books with my husband. It started withย Harry Potter while we were dating, and though Jim doesn’t read much, I’m constantly on the look out for other books he’d enjoy. And sometimes after he’s gotten a recommendation from someone else, he’ll share a book with me. Some other books we’ve both enjoyed are…

The Martian, The Impossible Fortress, Sleeping Giants, Dark Matter, Armada

The Martian by Andy Weir

The Impossible Fortress by Jason Rekulak

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Armada by Ernest Cline

Book Recommendations For My Husband

Because I talk about books a lot, Jim’s not always ready and willing to take my recommendations. As you can see by the books above, he’s more of a sci-fi lover, so when I try to get him to read books from other genres, he can be a bit reluctant. Also, Jim only “reads” books on audio, so that can be a limiting factor as well. We have to be able to find the audiobook version. Regardless, there are some books I know he’d love just as much as I do, if I could just get him to read them.

Stalking Jack the Ripper, A Study in Charlotte, Starflight, Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore, Spontaneous

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro (Review coming on Monday.)

Starflight by Melissa Landers

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

Spontaneous by Aaron Starmer

    1. Haha. It’s all about priorities, right? I think audiobooks are perfect because you can listen while you’re doing something else. Many household tasks are mindless, so they work well while listening.

  1. I actually met my boyfriend through his book blog, so I’m really lucky that we both love to read. He doesn’t like all of the books I read (fantasy, contemporary YA, etc.), but I like most of the books he reads. That means we buddy read most of our books! We actually buddy read Sleeping Giants and Dark Matter, and we both loved The Martian and Armada.
Based on the books you have listed, I’d recommend that you guys read The Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price!

    1. That is so cute! I’m a little jealous. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m checking out The Flight of the Silvers now. Thanks for the recommendation!

  2. My husband doesn’t read at all with the exception of reading to our daughters, haha. There are definitely books out there that I think he’d enjoy, but he has just never been a reader and is also very stubborn and prefers to spend his free time doing other things. That being said, he does enjoy podcasts so I think I can get him onto a few audiobooks…we’re going to try one or two on a very long drive this summer ๐Ÿ™‚ These are all great suggestions so I’m going to add them to my list!!

    1. Yes, The Martian audio is AMAZING! I know I’ll return to that book over and over again. I haven’t heard of The Art of Fielding. I’ll have to check it out.
