5 Favorite Book Series

Favorite Book Series

I’ve talked a lot about some of my favorite books, but I don’t know that I’ve done a post before on my favorite series. And since I just share my screen-based analogy of books, which concludes that book series are the ultimate reading experience for me, I thought I needed to remedy that oversight ASAP.

So…here it is!

My 5 favorite book series of all times

Harry Potter Box Set

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I’ve said a lot about Harry Potter. You may recall my post about why I love Harry Potter.

Lunar Chronicles

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I’ve talked about these books a lot too. Again, the details are just fantastic. Plus they’re fairy tales, but set in space. Can these books just be made into movies right now?!

The Naturals series

The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I can’t understand why this series hasn’t gotten more love. There are 5 teenagers with specially honed abilities (not super powers) that help the FBI solve cold cases. Except they always seem to end up in life or death situations. Not to mention, they live together, so the hormones are flying and romance abounds. Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a professor of literature, and she is the master of hooking you with suspense throughout her books.

The Selection series

The Selection by Kiera Cass

I can’t really explain why I love these books so much. America drives me crazy in the first three books. But there is something about the fight for the crown and the relationships in these books that wins me over every time. Plus the audiobooks are great, so they’re perfect for re-reading.

His Dark Materials

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman

These books are ripe with deeper meaning and religious (or anti-religious) undertones, and I can’t entirely figure out what happens at the end. But that just serves to make them even better and to keep me coming back for more. I am finally readingย The Book of Dust book 1 right now, and it’s so wonderful to be back in this fantastical world that Pullman has created.

Hunger Games

Runner Up: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I had to at least mention this series because it was one of the first great YA series that I loved. I only didn’t include it in my top 5 because it hasn’t been quite as timeless for me as the others. But it’s still amazing. Well, right up until the end when Katniss picks the wrong guy.

  1. Great list! I like the original Selection trilogy and even binged it on vacation last year; I couldn’t get into the daughter’s story, so I never finished. I want to read The Golden Compass, too – I remember seeing the movie years ago, but never read the book.

    1. Most people like the original Selection books best, but I actually liked the last 2 better. I identified a lot with Eadlyn, and America just drove me crazy. Haha. I really liked the friend – was it Mari?

The Golden Compass movie is good. We’ve watched it many times, and they were fairly true to the books. The series is really good – especially on audio. Make time for it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Jim and I read the first few Series of Unfortunate Events books when we were first dating, and I liked them, but they got too formulaic. I did enjoy the Netflix series though. I have only read the first Thursday Next book, and I remember liking it. I need to read it again and then continue on with the series. I have not heard of The Spellman Files. Checking Goodreads now! Thanks.

  2. Harry Potter is my top series for all time. A close second is Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series. ๐Ÿ™‚ I also love The Hunger Games, and I really enjoyed the selection series and LOVE The Lunar Chronicles. I’m going to add The Naturals to my list – I don’t think I’d ever heard of it but sounds soooo good!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Awesome. I hope you love The Naturals. I have heard SO much about Louise Penny’s series, but I am intimidated by the number of books already published. I need to just get over that though, right? I’m checking my library site right now to see if I can get the first book on audio.

  3. I love Harry Potter and Hunger Games. I tried the Lunar Chronicles and was bored, but everyone else raves about it so I need to give it another try sometime. I only read a couple chapters so really never gave it a fair shot. A series that I really liked but is kind of quirky is Chaos Walking, and I’m currently reading the Queen’s Thief series, on Sheila’s recommendation. I’m interested in checking out The Naturals.

    1. Cinder is definitely the least interesting of the books in The Lunar Chronicle series. I didn’t really like it much the first time I read it, but the books beyond that one are amazing. They just get better and better as more characters become involved. Maybe skip to Scarlet?

I have not heard of Chaos Walking or the Queen’s Thief series. I am checking them out right now!
